How do I play?
Spot a participating book box in your neighborhood, find a book with an official QR tag, and scan it with your phone's camera. Log your find, earn points, and choose to read the book or leave it for the next hunter.
How does the point system work?
- 10 Points (First Finder): Awarded to the very first person who discovers and logs a newly registered book tag.
- 2 Points (Subsequent Finder): Awarded to every player who scans and logs that book afterwards as it moves from box to box.
Do I have to leave a book if I take one?
While street libraries encourage "take a book, leave a book," you can take a tagged book home to read! Once you're done, simply drop it off in any public book-sharing box so another explorer can find it and keep the points rolling.
QR Tags & Books
What if a QR tag is damaged or won't scan?
If a tag is ripped, faded, or unreadable, tap the Report an Issue button on the search page or send us a quick photo through our support contact. We can help log the find manually or issue a replacement tag entry.
Can I tag and register my own books?
Yes! You can request or download printable QR tags from your account dashboard, stick them inside the front cover of your favorite read, register the book on the site, and place it in a local sharing box to kick off a new hunt.
Can I register my own street library or book box?
Absolutely. If you host or know of a neighborhood book box, you can add its location to our community map so nearby hunters know where to look.Privacy, Safety & Etiquette
Does the app track my live location?
No. We only record the general location of the book box when you submit a scan. We do not track your real-time movement or store precise location data.
What should I do if a book box is on private property?
Always stay on public sidewalks and pathways. Respect property owners by visiting during daylight hours, closing box doors securely, and leaving no litter behind.
Are comments and log notes moderated?
Yes. We enforce a strict community policy to keep log notes positive, family-friendly, and respectful. Personal information (such as full names, home addresses, or phone numbers) in comments is strictly prohibited and will be removed.
