Welcome to EZ-OO! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website, mobile web application, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account, scanning tagged books, or using any part of the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Description of the Service

EZ-OO is a web-based community game designed to track and gamify the discovery of books placed in street-side, publicly accessible book-sharing boxes (such as Little Free Libraries). Users scan QR code tags attached to books, log their discoveries, earn points, and contribute notes for fellow community members.

2. Real-World Safety & Personal Responsibility

YOU AGREE THAT YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE GAME IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  • Safety First: You are solely responsible for your personal safety while searching for book boxes and scanning tagged books. Always remain aware of your surroundings, traffic, pedestrian hazards, weather conditions, and physical obstacles. Never use your phone or look at screens while driving, cycling, or crossing streets.
  • Weather & Terrain: Outdoor conditions can be hazardous. You are responsible for dressing appropriately for local weather conditions and taking appropriate precautions on icy, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
  • Supervision of Minors: Children and minors should only participate under the direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

3. Respect for Property & Private Land

  • Public & Permitted Access Only: Book boxes listed or tagged on our Service are intended to be accessible from public sidewalks, pathways, or designated public spaces.
  • No Trespassing: You agree never to trespass on private property, walk on private lawns, climb fences, or access book boxes during improper hours (such as late at night) if located on residential premises.
  • Care for Book Boxes: Handle book boxes, doors, latches, and books with care. Always ensure box doors are closed tightly after use to prevent damage from rain, snow, or wind. Do not force books into overfilled boxes.

4. Fair Play & User Conduct

To maintain a fun and fair community experience, you agree not to:

  1. Falsify Scans: Scan QR codes remotely, generate fake scans, or log books you have not physically discovered in person.
  2. Tamper with Tags: Remove, deface, alter, or cover official QR tags or stickers attached to registered books.
  3. Abuse the Point System: Attempt to exploit bugs, use automated bots, or manipulate the platform for artificial points or leaderboard positioning.
  4. Post Harmful Content: Leave log comments, reviews, or profile content that is illegal, offensive, abusive, defamatory, threatening, or invasive of another person's privacy. Do not share private personal information (addresses, full names, phone numbers) in public log notes.

5. Intellectual Property & User Submissions

  • Platform Content: All software, design elements, graphics, logos, and artwork on the Service are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
  • User Contributions: By submitting log comments, notes, or reviews on the platform, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and distribute that content within the Service.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE CANADIAN LAWS:

  • THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.
  • IN NO EVENT SHALL [YOUR APP NAME], ITS OPERATORS, DIRECTORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR SPECIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, ACCIDENTS, OR LOST DATA) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR PHYSICAL BOOK-HUNTING ACTIVITIES.

7. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at our sole discretion, without prior notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in cheating, damaged real-world book boxes, or engaged in abusive community behavior.

8. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Northwest Territories and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any legal disputes shall be brought exclusively before the courts of the Northwest Territories.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
